Oversized cargo transportation is the delivery of cargo the dimensions or the weight of which exceed standards for regular transport and that requires specialized equipment, permits, and precise route planning. It is needed where it is impossible to “disassemble and pack in a box”: in construction, energetics, production, and the mining sector. The most common types of transported equipment include special-purpose machinery, metal structures, transformers, generators, industrial equipment, tanks, turbines, bridge components, and large production line components. The main advantage of this type of transportation is that you get a turnkey delivery with manageable deadlines, transparent risks, and control at every stage, even if the cargo is complex, expensive, or project-critical.

How SZMA Logistics organizes oversized cargo transportation

We handle the entire process, from cargo inspection to final delivery at the site. Our task is to make complex transportation understandable, safe, and predictable in terms of time limits and costs.

Cargo analysis and technical preparation Cargo analysis and technical preparation
01 Cargo analysis and technical preparation

Before starting the work, we clarify and record:

  • dimensions, weight, center of gravity, slinging/fastening points;
  • loading/unloading requirements (crane, crossbars, rigging);
  • storage and transportation conditions (vibration, shelter, temperature restrictions);
  • packaging and labeling features (additional packaging/crating, if required).

If there is not enough data, we arrange measurements, photographic recording, and request technical documentation from the manufacturer.

02 Documentation and permits

SZMA Logistics prepares and maintains the documentation package required specifically for your route and mode of transport. Depending on the task, this includes:

  • transportation documentation (CMR / bill of lading / air waybill, domestic waybills);
  • commercial documents (invoice, packing list, specifications);
  • customs support (for international transportation): preparation of data for customs declaration, classification, interaction with the broker;
  • cargo insurance (upon request — selection of terms, policy processing);
  • oversized/heavy cargo permits and route approvals, including restrictions on bridges, heights, widths of passages, and time windows for traffic.

Our goal is to ensure that cargo travels legally, without stops due to paperwork or unexpected fines.

03 Selection and ordering transport

We select transport not "out of habit", but based on the parameters of the cargo and the route:

  • low-deck trailers, telescopic platforms, modular systems;
  • tractors of the required class, reinforced axles, wideners;
  • container solutions (including flat rack / open top — for multimodal schemes);
  • special escort: pilot vehicles, security, and, if required, escort service.

We check access roads, turning radii, height restrictions (power lines, overpasses), road surface conditions, and maneuverability at loading/unloading areas in advance.

старт работ SZMA Logistics
04 What we do before the loading

Before the start of the work, SZMA Logistics:

  • agrees on the loading plan and the fastening diagram;
  • organizes the provision of equipment and a rigging crew;
  • monitors the site’s readiness: access roads, lighting, maneuvering areas, availability of cranes and slings;
  • conducts safety briefings and records the initial condition of the cargo (photo/report).

We provide temporary storage, transshipment at the terminal, or batch consolidation, if required.

05 During transportation

In transit, we provide the following:

  • tracking and adherence to the agreed route;
  • coordination of drivers, escorts and intermediate points (terminals, parking lots, checkpoints);
  • prompt response to changes: weather, road restrictions, rescheduling of passage windows;
  • regularly reporting the client about the status and arrival forecast.

The main principle is no comments like "we’re on our way, we’ll let you know when we arrive". You understand where the cargo is and what is happening.

06 Upon the completion of transportation

At the end we:

  • organize unloading and installation on site (including positioning, if required);
  • check the integrity of the cargo and prepare acceptance/transfer certificates;
  • close the transportation documentation: original documents, a report on stages, confirmation of delivery;
  • organize the return of tare/fasteners and the reverse logistics of equipment, if required.

The main principle is no comments like "we’re on our way, we’ll let you know when we arrive". You understand where the cargo is and what is happening.

Interaction with transportation participants

Oversized cargo is always a team effort. SZMA Logistics acts as a coordinator and a single window of communication between:

Sender and recipient

01

Warehouse/terminal and rigging contractors

02

Carrier and escort services

03

Customs, broker and insurance company

04

Ports / rail terminals / airports (if a multimodal scheme is used).

05

We synchronize schedules, monitor contractors, and proactively mitigate risks that typically surface at the most inopportune moments: unprepared site, not approved equipment, route restrictions, and missing documentation.

SZMA Logistics: when oversized cargo must arrive safely and on time

If you need to transport large equipment, specialized machinery, or heavy structures, we'll plan the route, prepare the documents, select the right transport, and handle the cargo from the point of departure to final unloading, with control at every stage.
